The Security Congress of Ireland was inaugurated on the 24th May 2005. The current Chairman of the Security Congress is Mr. Les Mc Lindon.

The Private Security Authority (PSA), which was established pursuant to the above Act, is an independent statutory body with responsibility for licensing and regulating the private security industry in Ireland and commenced operations early in 2005. Licensing in the security industry will commence on the 1st October 2005. The first sector to be licensed will be manned guarding. All security companies operating in this sector have until the 31st March 2006 to secure a licence. Trading after this date without a licence will be a criminal offence and both the supplier and recipient of the service will be liable to prosecution.
